Missouri Quarter Horse Youth Association - October 2018 News

Hey Horse People!

September saw a lot of fun for MQHYA. I saw most of you at the American Royal show. Congratulations to everyone! The Royal Feast is always a blast!

With the All-American Quarter Horse Congress already underway, it is starting to feel like October once again. My sister and I are showing in reining, which is early in the show, so I will not be able to see many of you in Columbus - but I would like to wish everyone the best of luck. If you've never been out to the Congress, you should make plans to attend. The horse show itself is outstanding, there are all kinds of educational lectures and demonstrations to attend and it will take days to just make a visit to all the vendor booths. We have been going as long as I can remember and wouldn't dream of missing it! One unique event at the Congress is the National Youth Activities Team Tournament (NYATT). Each Affiliate can send a team to compete. The classes offered are showmanship, horsemanship, western pleasure, hunt seat equitation, hunter under saddle, reining, and barrel racing. The winning team and individuals win great prizes and bragging rights of being a "Congress Champion"! This year’s Missouri Team includes:

  • Morgan D’Albini - hunter under saddle & hunt seat equitation

  • Evie Doles - horsemanship & hunt seat equitation

  • Alyssa Pemberton - showmanship & horsemanship

  • Keely Seiter - showmanship & hunter under saddle

If you are an FFA member in Missouri, then you may be hearing about the Missouri Quarter Horse Association Fall Speech Contest. Each Chapter can send two students to area and from there, two will go to districts. The district winners will go to the MQHA Convention in January to speak for the state title. If you are an FFA member and are interested, please reach out to me and I would be happy to answer your questions!

Speaking of the MQHA Convention, start making plans to attend this year. A few changes have been made and it will be hosted at the Holiday Inn Executive Center in Columbia, January 19-20, 2019. We will plan to do our fun activity/outing following our annual meeting on Saturday again this year.

Also coming up is the MQHA Charities - Fall Festival All Youth Horse Show. This show will be held at the National Equestrian Center in Lake St. Louis, November 16-18. We are looking for members to help us work our MQHYA booth, help with the show as well as with the consignment clothing booth. Don’t forget that this volunteering can help toward scholarship hours! If you are interested, please contact Cara for more information!

I hope all of you are enjoying your horses and fall weather. I look forward to seeing you soon!
