MQHYA May 2022 News

Hello, we’ve had a great start to the season!

Our Parent Horsemanship Challenge at the Show-Me Spring Show was a huge success! Thank you to all who participated.

I am looking forward to the Gateway Classic show next week! We will host a youth pizza party in the barns on Saturday evening, May 28 at 5:30pm! We can mingle and talk about YES and Youth World team plans. We will also have the youth sno cone maker there as well! RSPV for the pizza party here.

During the Gateway show, we will draw the stall raffle winner AND electric scooter raffle winner. We’ll sell tickets for these on Thursday and Friday then draw the winner Saturday morning during the showmanship. The winner does not have to be present to win, so anyone can purchase tickets! Contact Cara for tickets.

We are getting excited for the Youth Excellence Seminar (YES)! This event is scheduled for July 12-14 in Amarillo, Texas. Registration is now open! The priority registration deadline is June 1. YES offers a wide variety of activities for both youth and adult leaders. Be sure you check out the tentative schedule to see what is in store for this three-day, action-packed event. If you are interested in running for an AQHYA officer or director position, the deadline to apply is June 1. Please find the AQHYA Guide to Campaigning here.

If you are planning to attend YES or are interested in running for an AQHYA officer or national director position, please let Youth Adviser, Cara Harmon, know as soon as possible so she can include you with our team travel plans! Here is who she has on her list as attending so far: Justin & Abby Eddy, Grace Kehoe, Hazel Myles, Hunter & Cooper Skouby.

If you are planning on attending the Youth World Show (YWS), July 28 - August 7 in Oklahoma City, and have not submitted your Letter of Intent, you need to contact Cara immediately. If you are planning on joining Team Missouri from another state, you must submit a Change of Affiliation form. These forms are due to AQHA by June 1 and require several signatures.

Here is the tentative schedule for the show. The schedule includes Level 3, Adequan Level 2, 13 & Under, Level 1 Champion of Champions, and Level 3 and Level 2 core classes. New for 2022, exhibitors will have the opportunity to enter an optional jackpot for each class for the chance to win a cash payout. Additionally, exhibitors will have the opportunity to compete for youth all-around titles in the 13 & Under and 14-18 divisions.

Level 2 13 & Under core classes: Beginning at the 2022 YWS, Level 2 core classes will now offer two age divisions for the 13 & Under and 14-18 exhibitors to participate in with their American Quarter Horses. The core classes are defined as western pleasure, horsemanship, hunter under saddle, hunt seat equitation, showmanship, trail, and ranch riding. Read more about the new show opportunities here.

Entry Limits per Affiliate: We want to clarify the number of entries each affiliate can approve for its team, as this has changed since the last time qualifications were in place. The following Rule Change Proposal was approved by the Executive Committee on the 2020 Show Committee Report: Amend the AQHYA World Championship Show Handbook to increase the number of affiliate entries allowed per state based on six entries multiplied by the total number of classes offered with no limit on individual class entries. [Youth Committee recommendation to World Show subcommittee] Executive Committee: Approved

For 2022, there are 44 – Level 3 classes and 40 – Level 2 classes (including the 13&Under core classes) for a total of 84 classes. Each class is then multiplied by six. Therefore, each affiliate is allowed a total of 506 entries. There is no cap on the number of affiliate entries per class.

Cara is keeping track of our total entries via Letter of Intents, so please be sure you are in touch with her if you plan to show at the Youth World this summer.

Don’t forget about the other opportunities to get involved at the Youth World. AQHYA hosts horse judging, speech competitions, art contests, and more! Read more about these contests here. Entries are due to AQHA by July 1. Contact Cara if you are interested, as she will send all Team Missouri entries in together. MQHYA sponsors the cost of all contest entries from members. These contests are so much fun and a great way to make the most of your Youth World experience!

Lastly, it is important that we are looking for team sponsors all year. Money that we raise helps pay for team expenses for YES, the Youth World and Congress NYATT teams, and more!

We already have three sponsors:

Hot Headstalls (MQHYA member, Hazel Myles)

HC Logik (MQHYA member, Paige Brown)

Freedom Healthcare Logistics (MQHYA member, Paige Brown)

You can download our sponsorship form from our Youth page on the MQHA website and it is also attached.

See you soon!
