MQHYA April 2025 News

Hello, everyone!

We’ve had a great start to our season. MQHYA has exciting news and events coming up, so make sure to read this entire newsletter to stay in the loop.

TEAM CHALLENGE FUNDRAISER

Our team challenge was a success! We had 20 teams of 3 that participated.  The first-place team each received a set of corn hole boards and bags the team members were Shannon Dudley, Jeff Cochran, and Karly Christensen. The second-place team members received front leg boots for their horses, team members were Christal Sivils, Spencer Orr, and Olivia Werdehausen. The third-place team members each received a fleece horse cooler, team members were Elizabeth Christensen, Kelsey ward, and Kaylen Scafe. Thank you to Kleinschmidt’s Western Store for donating the 2nd and 3rd place prizes as well as Lacross Lumber for donating the lumber to build the Corn hold boards.

GATEWAY SHOW

We plan to have a youth table set up at the Gateway show with shirt sales and trailer raffle tickets for sale. We are still planning to have a few “Power up tokens” hidden around the Gateway Classic Horse show Saturday morning for younger kids to find! Tokens can be redeemed for a prize!  If you would like to donate a prize for this activity, please just bring it to the youth table with the shirt sales.

YOUTH LABOR AUCTION

Please remember to text or email youth advisor Leslie Skouby once you have completed your working hours. If you need help getting in contact with the person that purchased you, please let Leslie or myself know.

DOOLITTLE TRAILER RAFFLE

Doolittle Trailer MFG. Has generously donated a 77 X 14, 7,000LB tandem axle utility trailer for us to raffle. We got a good start on selling raffle tickets at the Maple Leaf show. We hope that each youth is working on selling tickets in your communities at home. We will draw for the Trailer raffle winner at the MQHA Charities Fall Festival show Nov 1-2, 2025. Tickets are $20/each or 6 for $100. Please reach out to youth advisor Leslie Skouby if you would like more tickets to sell.

YOUTH EXCELLENCE SEMINAR

YES, offers a variety of activities to enhance your leadership skills, improve your knowledge of the equine industry, and connect you with like-minded horse enthusiasts. Be sure to check out the tentative schedule to see what is in store for this three-day, action-packed event! If you are interested in running for an AQHYA Officer or Director position, the deadline to apply is June 1. Please reference the Guide to Campaigning.

LETTER OF INTENT

Each year, MQHYA sends a team to compete at the AQHYA World Championship Show and participate in the National Youth Activity Team Tournament (NYATT) contest at the Congress. If you are interested in participating in either of these events, you must file a Letter of Intent with MQHYA so that your MQHA points can count toward your qualification. The 2025 Letter of Intent form is attached. Please contact Youth Advisor, Leslie Skouby, if you have questions or need assistance.

CHANGE OF AFFILIATION FORMS

If you are planning on joining Team Missouri from another state at the Youth World Show, you must submit a Change of Affiliation form. These forms are due to AQHA by June 1 and require several signatures.

New This year for the National Youth Activity Team Tournament (NYATT) at The Congress they will have their own hardship policy for Congress NYATT teams requiring a separate change of affiliation form. The Change of Affiliate deadline will be May 1, 2025. Any forms received after May 1st will not be accepted. I have attached the Change of Affiliate form. This must be signed by the residency affiliate youth advisor, and the affiliate requested youth advisor.

MQHYA SPONSORSHIPS

Please be on the lookout for potential MQHYA sponsors. Our goal is for every MQHYA youth attending YES, the YWS, or participating in NYATT to secure at least two sponsors for 2024. The sponsorship form is attached below.
