MQHYA April 2022 News

Hello, we’ve had a great start to the season!

Thank you to all who participated in our fundraisers during the MQHA Maple Leaf show last month! Several of our youth were able to log several work credit hours. Your hard work helped us raise over $4,100 for the association!

We have a few fun activities and fundraisers planned for the MQHA Show-Me Spring show this week (April 21-24)!

Parent Horsemanship Challenge Details:

★ Friday evening after the show.

★ This will be walk/trot only. Parents will ride a pattern. No rail work.

★ The parent must be a non-pro, not a Professional Horseman or trainer.

★ We will take nominations on Thursday and Friday during the show.

★ An initial nomination is $20 per parent. Jars will be set up for each nominated parent. Parents can continue to be 'nominated' by placing any value of money in their respective jar.

★ The eight parents with the highest nomination (most money) will compete in the horsemanship challenge at the end of the show on Friday, after the horsemanship.

★ The eight parents will be on horses in the arena and we will Calcutta each parent. We will pay the purchaser of the winning parent AND the purchaser of the 4th place winning parent. MQHYA will keep 20% of the total Calcutta earnings. Then, the remaining 80% will be split between the purchaser of 1st and 4th place, 60% and 40% to each respectively.

★ The first-place parent will take home $50.

★ Be sure to tell your parents to start practicing their horsemanship skills!

The Missouri Quarter Horse Association is hosting a fun happy hour in conjunction with this challenge. Drinks and appetizers will be provided! Be sure to join the fun! We also plan to auction off the Backroad Saddle pad that was graciously donated to the youth!

Gateway Stall Raffle

The MQHA board donated one stall for Gateway to the youth. We will sell raffle tickets for this stall at Maple Leaf, Show-Me Spring, and Gateway shows - and draw the winner on Saturday morning of Gateway.

Tickets are $5/each, 5 for $20 & 15 for $50

Electric Scooter Raffle

The Shafer/MCAlexander Barn graciously donated an EB5 Electric bike/scooter (valued at $600) to MQHYA to raffle.

Half of the proceeds from the ticket sales go towards the Cindy Reddish - Stand for Cindy Fund (AQHA Professional Horseman and judge - close friend/mentor of Anne’s who was injured in a horse-related accident and is no longer able to walk)

Tickets are $20/each, 3 for $50 & 6 for $100

Saturday Morning Craft Time:

We will host a craft table on Saturday morning, during the showmanship and halter where youth can paint a flower pot for spring. We thought this would be fun to get our younger youth involved. This will be a free-will donation and we’ll have a prize for whoever creates the cutest pot!

Youth Excellence Seminar

Join us as we make our mark at the 2022 Bank of America Youth Excellence Seminar (YES) July12-14 in Amarillo, Texas! Registration is now open! The priority registration deadline is June 1. YES offers a wide variety of activities for both youth and adult leaders. Be sure you check out the tentative schedule to see what is in store for this three-day, action-packed event. If you are interested in running for an AQHYA officer or director position, the deadline to apply is June 1. Please find the AQHYA Guide to Campaigning here.

If you are planning to attend YES (even parents), please let Youth Advisor, Cara Harmon know asap so she can include you with our team travel plans! She has already made our hotel reservations.

If you are planning on attending the Youth World Show (July 28 - August 7) in Oklahoma City

and have not submitted your Letter of Intent, you need to contact Cara immediately. If you are planning on joining Team Missouri from another state – or joining another state team and live in Missouri, you must submit a Change of Affiliation form. These forms are due to AQHA by June 1 and require several signatures.

Don’t forget about the other opportunities to get involved at the Youth World. AQHYA hosts horse judging, speech competitions, art contests, and more! Contact Cara if you are interested, as she will send all Team Missouri entries in together. MQHYA sponsors the cost of all contest entries from members. These contests are so much fun and a great way to make the most of your Youth World experience!

Lastly, it is important that we are looking for team sponsorships throughout the year. The money that is raised is used to help pay for team costs for the Youth World, Congress NYATT team, and YES. This in turn helps you! Our MQHYA Sponsorship/Donation form is attached.

See you all soon!

Sincerely,

Abby Eddy
